Limited Amount of 2009 H1N1 “Swine Flu” Vaccine Available Soon
Forest Lane Pediatrics will soon receive a small allotment of Live Attenuated Intranasal Vaccine. It is only approved for children age 2 years and older. Because there are so few doses available at this time, the CDC and the Texas Department of State Health Services have recommended that it should only be used for healthy children ages 24 – 47 months, i.e. after the 2nd birthday, but before the 4th birthday. Within the next two weeks, we also expect to receive a small amount of Inactivated, Injection Vaccine recommended for infants age 6 months to 2 years.
We anticipate ongoing shipments of the intranasal vaccine and the injected vaccine over the next few months, but the availability may be limited and unpredictable.
At this time, we are creating a waiting list for the vaccine. Our limited doses will be given on a “first-come, first-served” basis with appointments given only via e-mail.
To get on the waiting list, you can e-mail us at vaccinations@forestlanepediatrics.com . In the subject line, please list your child’s name and age. Please send a separate e-mail for each child in your family. In the body of the e-mail, list the best phone numbers where we can reach you to schedule an appointment. Not all requests will be granted.
Individuals outside of the age categories listed above who are at high risk of complications from influenza infection may also be eligible for the vaccine at the physicians’ discretion. If you believe that your child is at high risk, you should indicate this in your e-mail. If you have received FluMist seasonal influenza vaccine, you must wait 28 days before receiving the nasal spray H1N1 vaccine. The injectable form of the vaccine can be given at any time.
Due to an anticipated large volume of phone calls, we will only handle these appointment requests via e-mail.
We will always do our best to accommodate the medical needs of the patients under our care, and we appreciate your cooperation in the face of limited vaccine supply.
Sincerely,
The Physicians of Forest Lane Pediatrics
