2009 H1N1 Vaccine Update

The following represents an update to our last announcement.  If you have already sent an e-mail to the waiting list, you do not need to send a new one.  We will contact you as soon as a dose becomes available.  If you are not yet on the waiting list, please read the following announcement carefully for full details.

2009 H1N1 “Swine Flu” Vaccine Availability Update – It’s Here!!!

At this time, we are creating a waiting list for the vaccine.  Our limited doses will be given on a “first-come, first-served” basis with appointments given only via e-mail.

Forest Lane Pediatrics has received a small allotment of Live Attenuated Intranasal Vaccine for 2009 H1N1 “Swine Flu,” and we expect to receive the Inactivated Injectable Vaccine soon.

Any patient or parent who would like to receive the vaccine can now get on the waiting list by sending an e-mail to:  vaccinations@forestlanepediatrics.com .

The e-mail subject line should contain the child’s name and age.  Please send a separate e-mail for each child in your family.  In the body of the e-mail, list the best phone numbers where we can reach you.  We will contact you to schedule an appointment when a dose is available.

If you have received FluMist seasonal influenza vaccine, you must wait 28 days before receiving the nasal spray H1N1 vaccine.  The injectable vaccine can be given at any time.

Initially, we will have a very limited number of doses, so we will be focusing on the following high-risk groups on a “first-come, first-served” basis:

·         Children ages 6 months – 5 years

·         Children at high risk of complications from influenza infection

·         Parents of infants younger than 6 months of age

If you believe that your child is at high risk, you should indicate this in your e-mail.  Not all requests will be granted.  We anticipate ongoing shipments of the intranasal vaccine and the injected vaccine over the next few months, but the availability may be limited and unpredictable.  We expect adequate supply to eventually arrive over the course of this flu season.  If you can get the vaccine elsewhere, we encourage you to do so.

We will always do our best to accommodate the medical needs of the patients under our care, and we appreciate your cooperation in the face of limited vaccine supply.

Sincerely,

The Physicians of Forest Lane Pediatrics
